PART TWO:
Dr. Aravind Namasivayam and Dr. Anita McAllister return to Copenhagen for two days of advanced professional training for clinicians working with pediatric speech sound disorders.
Following the 2026 international workshop Rethinking Speech Sound Disorders in Children: From Speech Motor Synergies to Treatment Efficiency, we are excited to return in 2027 for another intensive two-day event exploring the rapidly changing science and clinical practice of pediatric Speech Sound Disorders (SSDs).
Dr. Aravind Namasivayam’s work is helping drive a paradigm shift in how we understand, assess, classify, and treat SSDs — moving beyond simply describing what we hear as “phonological errors” toward asking why those errors occur and examining the interacting speech-motor, perceptual, linguistic, cognitive, and developmental systems that shape speech production. This approach challenges long-standing assumptions based primarily on auditory-perceptual classification and brings emerging instrumental and clinical evidence into a more mechanistic, multidimensional, and precision-based framework for clinical decision-making.
And the science is moving quickly. Several research projects are currently underway, with new studies and data expected to emerge across 2026–2027. The 2027 workshop will bring participants the next wave of findings, updated clinical implications, and new questions arising from this work — creating an opportunity to see how the evidence and the field itself have progressed since our 2026 meeting.
Designed for practising speech-language therapists/pathologists, researchers, and experienced clinicians working with children with SSDs, this will not be an introductory course. It will be two days of new evidence, critical discussion, clinical translation, and rethinking some of the assumptions that have shaped SSD practice for decades.
